A centralized function also enables a comprehensive and objective view of the company’s talent landscape (overcoming the problem of silos hiding talent), and makes it easier to implement solutions, such as leadership training, that cut across the organization and can be delivered cost-effectively.



解析
这篇文章摘自Harvard Business Review,讲的是有关HR的talent managemnt理论。

选项中有两个大家可能不认识的词,一个是paragon,另一个是silo。讲真,说silos看得出是名词复数的话,paragon的词性真的猜不出,除非你认识这个单词。Paragon的意思是:模范(n.)或模范的(adj.),和model同义。另一次词是silo,意思是:筒仓。这个词的意思更不好理解,因为在英语中silo的用法等同于那些没有实意的概念词。

第一空:
这一空的词性比较好确定,固定搭配,create something for...,所以挖空的是名词。
也就是说,可选的就是silos, level, processes, paragon, details。而level是可数名词,而选项中没有冠词,也可以排除。
create details for这语义不通。后一句中提到assess capabilities,评估能力,是一个过程,根据语义可以确定是processes。

第二空:
corporate以及business-unit是两个层级。也就是公司整体、各部门都很重要。根据语义判断为level。

第三空:
a___function 当中填的是一个修饰词,一般修饰词都是形容词,那我们去看选项,其中形容词就一个,那就选它——centralized。

第四空:
problem of ____ hiding talent。 of后面跟名词,所以挖空的地方要么是名词,要么是动名词,要么是形容词。这一空靠词性分析就比较悬了,需要根据语义判断。
这句话本身其实不太好理解,原因就是silo这个词的用法本来就比较难理解。大概就是类似于coterie一词一样,翻译为小圈子,a small coterie of,一小圈XXX。
同学们其实可以靠排除法把范围缩小至silos和paragon,因为毕竟其他单词语义都不通。
所以,总结一下,背单词很重要!但是更重要的是需要连单词的用法一起背!

第五空:
to ___ solutions,肯定跟动词,动词只有drive和implement solutions。drive solution这个说法不通。答案就出来了。
