The New Zealand Film Commission invests in original and culturally significant films, encourages talented New Zealand filmmakers through developing career pathways and facilitating connections offshore, and works to increase the number of people seeing New Zealand films here and overseas. It is also responsible for promoting New Zealand’s screen production industry overseas and attracting international screen productions to New Zealand.
We are looking to fill a new role in our International team, which is committed to building on the agency’s strong existing relationships with the Chinese screen sector to further increase collaboration between our two industries.
The successful applicant will play a key role in helping to foster the development and production of amazing, original, satisfying and culturally significant films that entertain audiences in New Zealand, China and globally, as well as stimulating investment and other opportunities for the screen sector.
This China Industry Executive role replaces the previous China Business Development Executive role, and requires the successful candidate to be based in New Zealand with New Zealand work entitlement.
Working closely with the Head of International Relations, you will play a lead role in:
• All engagement with the Chinese production sector, both in-person and digitally, including the development and provision of China-specific information resources and advice to both New Zealand and Chinese industry
• Connecting New Zealand and Chinese filmmakers for co-production and other forms of collaboration, including potential inbound investment opportunities
• Hosting Chinese filmmakers and officials in New Zealand, and supporting New Zealand industry delegations to China and other relevant overseas locations
• Working with our International, Talent Development and Marketing teams on talent outreach and engagement, and other China-specific opportunities.
It is anticipated that, where and when appropriate, this role may involve some domestic and international travel.
If you have strong knowledge of and excellent relationships within the New Zealand and Chinese screen industries, feature film or related screen production experience, are bilingual English/Mandarin, well organised and have excellent written, verbal and intercultural communication skills, topped off with a healthy addiction to WeChat and Weibo, we'd love to hear from you!
This is a fixed-term contract for 12 months which we expect to average 40 hours per week. The successful applicant would ideally be based in Wellington and able to work outside the traditional 9am to 5pm work day where necessary. It is envisaged the successful applicant will commence this role in January 2017. Salary is dependent on experience.
