Ernest Hemingway’s colorful biography is almost as legendary as his literary achievements. Hemingway chased adventure at a young age, volunteering as a teenage ambulance driver in World War I’s Italian Front, where the injuries he sustained would lead him to meet a young nurse and the inspiration for his first novel A Farewell to Arms. In the 1920s, he caroused with the likes of Picasso and F. Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald in Paris, a time he captured in his memoir A Moveable Feast. Hemingway went on to become a war reporter in the Spanish Civil War, and then later World War II, finding ever more inspiration for his novels along the way, such as The Old Man and the Sea.  He is often cited as the most influential writer of the entire twentieth century and his marks on the literary landscape—how he redefined character development, prose, and even what it means to live as a writer—remain deeply felt.  What is your favorite Hemingway novel?
