Job description

Inland Revenue is currently recruiting graduates for Investigation roles in Takapuna, Manukau, Hamilton, Wellington and Christchurch

As an Inland Revenue Investigator your primary role will be to undertake investigative activities to ensure compliance with New Zealand’s tax and social policy legislation using a risk-based approach to identify and address non-compliance across all customer groups. Non-compliance can range from income suppression by individuals operating in the “hidden economy” through to the incorrect interpretation of complex legislation by multinationals.

Graduates can expect to undertake a wide range of duties and gain experience in auditing, technical tax matters and commercial practice. You will work closely with other Investigators, technical and legal specialists and be guided by our compliance strategy of ensuring customers pay the taxes they are required to and receive their correct entitlements. This requires interaction with a wide range of customers, their tax advisors and associated third parties to establish and verify facts and ensure policy and legislation are applied correctly.

Inland Revenue is an authorised training organisation and graduates will receive on the job training and a mentor to ensure professional requirements are met. The work is challenging, stimulating and highly rewarding. Some of the key responsibilities for this position include:

· communicating and building relationships with customers and their advisors

Desirable skills and attributes you will need in this role include:

· a relevant business degree, preferably in Accounting or Law, or in the final year of study to complete your degree

· excellent research and analytical skills

· the ability to identify patterns and trends coupled with an enquiring mind to challenge elements that appear ‘out of the ordinary’

· the ability to quickly build rapport and manage relationships.

· ability to problem solve and make sound decisions

· excellent verbal and written communication skills

· achievement focused with energy, enthusiasm, and drive

· the ability to plan and self-manage your time in order to achieve timeframes and goals

· the desire to take ownership and continually extend your personal and professional development.
