LCF student nominated for WGSN Global Fashion Awards

Irina Lazova has had her FdA Fashion Design and Marketing final year collection nominated for the WGSN Global fashion awards.

Up for the Lycra Future Designers Award, Irina’s collection combines high fashion and sportswear to create comfortable yet chic daywear.

Irina said she asked herself, “Where is the glamour in sportswear?”, in order to begin creating in response to newly developed sportswear materials that had a haute couture feel.

The young designer said:

“One of the most exciting things about sportswear is that feeling of comfort when you get home, slip on your baggy jogging bottoms and just relax. I took this idea and brought to it the principles of fashion styling.”

By using thicker material enriched with Lycra and given an organza sheen, Irina has put together a collection which does indeed bring together functionality and glamour. The garments even include waterproof pockets for mp3 players and phones.

Regarding her nomination, which was revealed at the WGSN Shortlist ceremony by pop star Kate Nash, Irina said:

“I have to admit that I did not expect it at all. You can imagine my excitement and happiness when Kate Nash announced my name. I have never had a more emotional moment in my life!”

She added:

“I partly owe the nomination to LCF as, although I’ve always had an interest in fashion and sportswear, the time I spent at university has helped me to define my style as designer.”

The winners will be announced at the WGSN Global Fashion Awards at an exclusive event at the V&A on October 30. Fingers crossed for this talented LCF designer!
