The opening line of the first amendment of the U.S.Constitution states that “Congress shall make no law respecting anestablishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.” Since itsinception, America has been a nation founded on the precept of religiousfreedom.  It’s founding fathers understood the importance of establishinga society where individuals could choose to practice (or not practice) theirreligion, free from hostility or government restrictions.  However, cultivating religious freedom in a diverse and democratic nation is not alwayseasy.

Please join us at the Beijing American Center for apresentation and discussion on the history and current state of religiousfreedom in the U.S. and to learn more about how this important democraticprinciple has not only shaped America, but the World.
