Americans like politics and this has been reflected in our TV entertainment. 

The West Wing is an American serial political drama television series that was originally broadcast on NBC for seven seasons from 1999 to 2006. The series is set primarily in the West Wing of the White House, where the Oval Office and offices of presidential senior staff are located, during the fictitious Democratic administration of Josiah Bartlet (played by Martin Sheen).   

In a lighter look at politics, VEEP, starring comedian Julia Louis-Dreyfus, is set in the office of Selina Meyer, a fictional Vice President, and subsequent President, of the United States.  

The latest version of this TV genre is the American political drama House of Cards, set in present-day Washington, D.C.
