UK China Art and Design Association supports and highlights the emerging artists and designers, in particular those who had gained experience within the creative industries in China or the UK. Areas span from fine art, design, fashion, architecture to performance art.
Based in London and focusing on the nearest community, we have staged their works in both UK and China, and engaged them with local and international creative sectors.
By curating group exhibitions, forums and special projects, the Association will continue to explore the emerging role of a new generation of art anddesign practitioners in the global landscape, with the purpose of matchingtalents with clients, catalysing cross-disciplinary collaborations, as well as facilitating new models for the mutual development of the creative industries between China and the rest of the world.
Purpose Of Position
To contribute to the planning, development and delivery of exhibitions / forums / special projects and provide administrative support.
Main Opportunities And Challenges
Ensuring projects run smoothly and to plan
Maintaining up-to-date records of contacts and activities
Maintaining good relationships across external partners
Assisting with exhibitions and public programmes
Assisting with PR and marketing
Engaging with the creative community and developing a strong network with artists, designers, curators and related sectors in the industry in both UK and China
To contribute to the development of both self-initiated and collaborative projects from concept to completion
To coordinate projects reporting to the director, to ensure the tasks are delivered on time and within the budget
To contribute to the research and production of proposals, presentations and reports, including fund applications and sponsorship proposals
To organise the loan / commissioning of artworks for exhibitions
To assist the design and layout of exhibition spaces
To coordinate partnerships and contractors including artists, designers, curators, institutions, couriers, fabricators etc.
To organise the production of graphics and content for communication and marketing purposes
To contribute to in-house communications, including newsletter campaigns, social media updates and site maintenance
To liaise with the press and other media partners
To prepare exhibition labels and interpretative plans
To collate catalogue materials, including liaison with exhibitors, graphic designers, photographers and publishers etc and organise the production
To arrange condition check, logistics and insurance for artworks, to ensure the safety and efficiency of the logistics
To organise the hire / purchase and maintenance of equipment required for exhibitions
To coordinate and assist in the installation and de-rig
To contribute to the preparation and realisation of exhibition related events, including privateviews, forums and workshops etc.
To give gallery talks and exhibition tours
To provide other general administrative and operational support, to ensure the smooth and efficient delivery of the projects and related events (e.g. sharing information, managing spreadsheets, diaries when required)
To handle and refer enquiries from both professional and non-specific audiences
To arrange appointments / meetings for allocated projects and take meeting minutes
To make travel, subsistence and accommodation arrangements for artists, speakers and guests etc.
To work within set budgets, prepare and keep records of the invoices
Demonstrable interest in international art and design, including willingness to engage with the emerging role of China in the global scene
Ability to carry out research independently and experience of picture and audio visual research
Experience of delivering exhibitions and / or related events and of working with artists
A practical approach to exhibition delivery with knowledge and experience related to the management of objects, loans and transport arrangements, and the ability to negotiate with contractors and service providers
Competent administration skills and attention to details
Numerate and literate with excellent organisational and time management abilities
Proven ability to manage a number of tasks simultaneously and to efficiently complete tasks by given deadlines and within given budgets
Experience of project work with a flexible and collaborative approach
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to liaise with internal and external stakeholders at all levels
Proven experience of proof-reading and editing
Demonstrable proficiency in word processing and packages such as Excel, FileMaker Pro, Projects and Photoshop, and ability to manage information systematically and accurately
A degree in a relevant field
Knowledge and experience of working in an international context
Awareness of health and safety regulations and accessibility issues for exhibitions
Working knowledge of Chinese or another foreign language
