There’s a lot to see in West Virginia, but few places are as exciting as the Gauley River National Recreation Area. The Gauley river runs through mountains, valleys and gorges, dropping over 668 feet over 26 miles of rugged terrain and rapids. This makes the area one of the best spots for White Water rafting in the Eastern United States.

Every year, more than 60,000 adventurers come to Gauley River to raft down stretches of river which range from Class III rapids to turbulent class V+. White water rafting is not for the feint hearted, so visitors should be sure to mind their safety.
