在过去两周，测试摄像头已经开始工作，如果发现车辆超速或是闯红灯，电子信号灯会发出警告，但不予以罚款。可是从周一起，就不只是警告了，罚款开始全面执行！

发言人Cathy Le女士说，10个老式摄像头早已“过时”，并没有捕捉超速驾驶的能力。Le说，所有摄像头都通过了“测试”过程，在维多利亚的道路安全战略中发挥了重要作用，帮助挽救生命和改变驾驶员行为。她表示：“测速摄像头的增加使得驾驶员们不得不减速，有助于防止事故的发生，因为这些测速摄像头被置于高风险或高速地区，比如事故高发区，或为人们提供道路安全效益的地方。”

关于在什么地方安置摄像头绝不是一言堂，而是经过多方协商的结果。参与讨论的代表来自各行各业，有Victoria Police, VicRoads 以及 the Department of Justice and Regulation. 委员会还参考了来自公众、当地市政厅、社区组织以及议会成员的要求。

根据Cameras Save Lives网站的数据显示，摄像头的作用功不可没，减少了交叉路口47％的交通事故，并减少了26％导致交叉路口的交通事故。虽然减少了大量的交通事故，但司机的银子也散了一大把。据统计，维州前十名罚款最高的测速摄像头在3个月内斩获1600万澳元罚款！
