本专题是文化系列讲座“追寻中美文化交流的历史足迹”的重要组成部分。它通过个案分析的形式，以具体的案例揭示重大的文化主题和历史矛盾，加深公众对中美文化的深层理解，并进行必要的人文思考。
本专题将围绕四个问题展开分析：一、自由主义知识分子的历史困境；二、费正清之问；三、中国社会发展的“惯性”；四、费正清的中国情结。
This topic is an important part of Dr. Hou’slecture series “The Historical Track of China-U.S. Cultural Exchange”. Througha specific case analysis, it reveals the major cultural themes and historicalcontradictions, deepens the understanding of Chinese and American cultures, andexplores a necessary humanistic thinking.
This topic will focus on four aspects: 1) Thehistorical predicament of liberal intellectuals; 2) Fairbank’s questions; 3)The inertia of Chinese social development; 4) Fairbank’s Chinese complex.
讲者简介：侯且岸博士现任北京行政学院教授，北京师范大学兼职教授、博士生导师，同时也担任国际中国文化研究学会副会长。他长期从事中国近现代思想文化、国外中国学的研究与教学。主要学术著作有：《当代美国的“显学”——美国现代中国学研究》、《费正清与美国汉学》、《当代中国的“显学”——中国现代史学与思想新论》、《认知中国：文化研究的路径》、《中国现代学术思想史论集》等，发表学术论文百余篇。
Speaker: Dr. HouQie’an, professor of Beijing Administrative College, and adjunct professor atBeijing Normal University. He is also the vice president of the InternationalSociety for Chinese Studies. Dr. Hou’s research focuses on the study of modernChinese thought and culture, as well as International Sinology. Selected publications: “Research of Contemporary Chinese Studies in the United States,” “John King Fairbank and American Sinology,”“A New Study on the History and Thoughtof Modern China,” “Cognition inChinese Culture: the Path for Chinese Cultural Studies,” and “Academic thought of Modern China.”
