People are facing many problems in large cities in everyday life.  What are the problems? Should governments encourage people to move to smaller regional towns?

People in modern day metropolises have succumbed to problematic lifestyles. They are confronted with various challenges in large cities due to which there are talks about governments promoting relocation to smaller regional towns, which I believe should be practiced.

[词汇]

  • succumb

Vi. 屈服,被压垮

e.g.: Gina Succumbed to temptation and had a second serving of cake.

  • confront with:

Firstly, with large scale urbanisation, overpopulation is the most critical difficulty faced by people in the cities, leading to several related challenges such as heavy traffic on the roads, lack of accommodation facilities and competitive job markets. Furthermore, cities are now under constant construction and are transforming into concrete jungles which has severe negative impacts on the environment causing health problems for the residents. For example, excessive construction of factories, residential areas and corporate valleys such as the Silicon Valley in San Francisco resulted in massive deforestation and pollution in the past decade which caused chronic bronchitis amongst the inhabitants.

[词汇]

  • large scale

adj. 大规模的,大型的

e.g.: Its large scale and respected brand, and the high cost of switching to another vendor, give it a big competitive advantage.

  • urbanisation:

n. 城市化

e.g.: This implies a slower pace of urbanisation than in the past decade.

  • competitive:

e.g.: Competitive sports encourage children to work together as a team.

  • under constant construction:

constant: adj. 经常的,持续不断的,经常发生的

e.g.: The open source application is under constant construction and improvement.

  • concrete jungle:

水泥丛林,意思就是到处都是高楼,没有开阔空地的成曲

e.g.: The cramped, concrete jungle that is Tokyo, one of the world’s most densely populated cities, has little space for parks.

  • deforestation:

n. 采伐森林

e.g.: There might even be an agreement to stop deforestation.

  • in the past decade:

在过去的十年中

e.g.: This implies a slower pace of urbanisation than in the past decade.

  • bronchitis:

[内科] 支气管炎

e.g.: So if you have a cold, flu, cough, bronchitis, those are all viral infections and need antivirals.

  • inhabitant:

n. 居民,居住者

e.g.: About 3000 BC, the inhabitant of the island has entered the Bronze Ware Period.

As a result, governments need to encourage its public to move to local towns to ease the adverse conditions of the cities.  In other words, if individuals migrate to smaller regional towns, it would lead to a spread of population ensuing a balance in the cities. Subsequently, this shift in population would create tumultuous opportunities for the local towns and its people in terms of economic and social development. For instance, more people residing in regional areas would allow schools, hospitals and workplaces to be built, combined with infrastructural facilities such as roads, electricity and water distribution to be enhanced.

[词汇]

  • ease the adverse condition:

缓解不利条件

ease: 减轻,缓和

adverse: adj. 不利的,反面的,有害的

  • migrate to:

移民到,转移到

e.g.: On warm days, Bostonians migrate to this popular park to sunbathe, picnic and feed waterfowl.

  • tumultuous:

e.g.: A minority of shrewd billionaires have succeeded in prospering despite the tumultuous conditions.

  • reside in:

居住,存在于

e.g.: They are obligated to reside in their designated residence for life.

In conclusion, recent city life comprises various hardships including overpopulation, and environmental and health concerns for which, I think that governments must endorse migration to smaller regional towns which would not only stabilise the adversities in the cities, but also develop the local towns holistically.

[词汇]

  • comprise various hardships:

  • holistically:
