Art has an incredible power to connect us to the world and people around us, and musicians are some of the best advocates for the benefits of international education exchange and the connection that great art can give to people all over the world. Please join us at the Beijing American Center for a special night of live guitar music performed by the award-winning musician Meng Su. During the program she will play several pieces including a new piece written for her that was inspired by the superman “Monkey King” character from the ancient Chinese novel Journey to the West. Although the “west” in the novel was India, during the program Meng Su will share her own journey to study in the U.S. Born in Qingdao, China, Meng Su began studying the guitar at age 5 and went on to study at the Central Conservatory in Beijing. She then completed her graduate studies at the Peabody Institute at Johns Hopkins University and will receive an alumni award from the school at the event. After the concert, there will be light refreshments and a chance to chat with Meng Su and other guests.
