2011年11月欧巴马总统在夏威夷檀香山主持亚太经合组织峰会，并在峰会的间隙与胡主席举行双边会晤。欧巴马总统表示：“美中两国之间的合作不仅对我们本国人民的安全和繁荣至关重要，对全世界也至关重要。这种合作对亚太地区尤为重要，中国和美国在这个地区都异常活跃。我们都是太平洋大国。我认为本地区许多国家都期待美国和中国发展建设性的关系，作为继续增长和繁荣的基础。”

In November 2011 President Obama hosted the APEC Summit in Honolulu, Hawaii and held a bilateral meeting with President Hu on the sidelines of the Summit.  President Obama said, “cooperation between the United States and China is vital not only to the security and prosperity of our own people but is also vital to the world. Such cooperation is particularly important to the Asia Pacific region, where both China and the United States are extraordinarily active.  We are both Pacific powers.  And I think many countries in the region look to a constructive relationship between the United States and China as a basis for continued growth and prosperity.”
