In the summer of 2010, the United States was one of 189 countries and 57 international organizations that participated in the World Expo 2010 Shanghai – one of the largest world’s fairs in history.  The 5600-square foot U.S. pavilion focused on the theme “Rising to the Challenge” and showcased an American city set in 2030, featuring clean energy and other technological innovations.  Then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said that by visiting the pavilion, guests would see that “China, the United States and all the other countries represented here (in Shanghai) share many common challenges and common aspirations, including our hope for a future in which every child in every land has the opportunity to fulfill his or her potential.” More than 7.2 million visitors toured the pavilion over 184 days.
