相较于商科、工科而言，比较文学真的不算是热门专业。什么是比较文学呢？

维基百科说，Comparative literature (sometimes abbreviated "Comp. lit.," or referred to as Global or World Literature) is an academic field dealing with the literature of two or more different linguistic, cultural or nation groups. While most frequently practiced with works of different languages, comparative literature may also be performed on works of the same language if the works originate from different nations or cultures among which that language is spoken. Also included in the range of inquiry are comparisons of different types of art; for example, a relationship of film to literature. Additionally, the characteristically intercultural and transnational field of comparative literature concerns itself with the relation between literature, broadly defined, and other spheres of human activity, including history, politics, philosophy, and science.

该项目需要修读32个学生，其中20学分为该系部学分，12学分为系部之外的学分。

课程设置：

必修课：

COLIT-GA 1400, Seminar in Literature: Research Methods and Techniques—Practice and Theory (this course must be taken during the first semester of enrollment);
A literary criticism/theory class before 1800;
A contemporary (20th century) literary criticism/theory course;
A pre-1800 literature course.

要想获得MA学位，学生必须掌握三门语言，包括英语。如何评定是否掌握了这些语言，NYU认定多种方式，比如通过语言翻译考试，这是NYU负责的一门考试，每年有三次考试机会。
