This program will be conducted in English.

Do you know what it means for food to be “organic?”  Can vegetables and fruits be grown in urban environments like rooftop buildings?  How do we ensure that our farming is sustainable and does not damage the environment?  In the last twenty years, people in many U.S. cities have created community gardens and grow their own vegetables on small plots of land.  As a result, vacant lots and rooftops have been transformed into farms, and people are able to know exactly where their food comes from.

Come and join us at the Beijing American Center to learn more about how organic foods and urban farming have revolutionized the way that people around the world grow and select their food.  Our guest speaker is a Fulbright Scholar, and she will talk about how farms in Seattle and South Carolina have brought together communities to produce safe food in a sustainable way.  If you’ve ever wondered where your food comes from and how it was produced, this is your opportunity to learn more about how our food choices have a dramatic effect on our health and our environment.
