Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls,

On behalf of the Lucent Charity Foundation, I announce that the Australia-Sino Youth Cultural Exchange Art Exhibition now opens.

I am very happy to see so many young artists from China to perform and exhibit together with local children in Perth. I am supportive of cultural exchanges in any form between any cultures, because through exchange we understand each other, get close to each other and befriend each other. Today’s world becomes smaller and smaller with modern technologies, however, there is still misunderstanding, miscommunication and misrepresentation among different cultures, countries, ideologies and religions. We adults are very often misleading our children in amphasising the differencesand overlooking the similarities, especially our politicians, who very often purposely widen the gap and to make gaps into gulfs. We should learn from our younger generation. The world in their eyes is positive, optimistic, innocent and full of sunshine. In them and in their art works some people may see immaturity and naivety, but I see hope and future. It’s great to be young and I respect and even worship the young. Art knows no boundaries, I believe that through more and more exchanges, this globe of ours will eventually become oneharmonious village where people of different cultures will respect, embrace and love each other and live together in peace, if not in our hands, it will in our children’s hands. 

We are thankful to those people who have helped to put this exhibition together, especially Ms Xu Jie and Yang Xu, the latter is also my granddaughter’s art teacher. 

I should be proud of the Lucent Charity Foundation for not only supporting the young ones in need but also promoting cultural exchanges. We are looking forward to seeing more and more such events to be held by the foundation.

I now would like to invite Ms Yang Xu from Yang’s Art Academy to say a few words. Thank you Ms Yang.

Now the opening ceremony comes to the most exciting part. Let’s welcome Ms Rochelle Williameson, Head Master of Rossmoyne Primary School, Mr Tim Bamber, Head Master of Oberthur Primary School and Ms Kate Rowlands, Manager of Community Relations & Information,  representing Ms Rebecca Ball, Executive Director of the Office of Multicultural Interests to present awards, cultural exchange certificates to the 19 young cultural ambassadors from China.

Last but not least, let’s welcome Peggy Wang, to present the gifts she has prepared for the 19 young cultural ambassadors from China.
