BuzzFeed is looking for a Reporter to join our growing UK team.
The right candidate will have a solid track record in general reporting and the ability to source and break ambitious stories that can impact the national agenda – not just react to it. You will be able to spot trends and pick up on themes early on that will start or advance conversations and debates of national interest.
This is a great opportunity for a Reporter who has fresh ideas that will speak to BuzzFeed’s audience across the UK and beyond. You will get to work closely with editors to produce deeply reported stories, free from the pressure of churning out content to simply fill space.
You will understand the relationship between the internet and journalism right now, including what makes people want to read and share stories online. A clever and creative approach that doesn’t take itself too seriously is also key: We love having fun experimenting and collaborating with new ways of reporting stories.
Responsibilities
·Pitch, report, and write powerful, well-researched stories that people want to share
·Work in a collaborative environment with the rest of the BuzzFeed News team
·Willingness to travel to secure the best stories
·Experience working on a global level, coordinating adaptations across the different countries in which BuzzFeed publishes, as well coordinating how we do news video internationally.
·Ability to work across timezones with members of our non-English speaking news teams.
·Fluency in business-level Mandarin desirable in order to create a global storytelling
·Extensive knowledge of video production.
·Prior experience reporting in multiple countries, and having a good handle on how media works in different cultures.
·Understanding the viral web and reporting across several cultures, and a strong background in how to incorporate that information into a good news video.
Key skills
·A number of years’ experience working for a media organisation
·Equally adept at writing engaging long features and short pieces
·Ability to spot a scoop and run with it
·A creative approach to planned events and off-diary stories
·Effective in managing personal deadlines
·Persuasive in getting contacts to give BuzzFeed stories/data/research first
