作为形容词的时候，main 和 chief 这两个词都可以表示“主要的、首要的”这样的意思，但是它们在用的时候要注意什么呢？

1. 这两个词通常都只用作定语，一般不用作表语，有时可互换。如：

2. 用于人时，通常用 chief 而不用 main。如：

the chief engineer

the chief cook

the chief secretary

3. 表示整体中的主要部分或主要的力量，通常用 main。如：
