Is your workplace safe? How should companies and employees analyze workstations to see where there is potential for harm to employees due to chemical, electrical, or other dangers? Workplace safety is something that everyone should care about, because keeping workers safe leads to a content and productive workforce, and reduces the expenses that companies have to pay to help injured workers recover and to find temporary replacements for injured or sick workers.
Come and join us at the Beijing American Center to learn more about the important field of workplace safety. Our speaker, Dr. Jerry Davis, Professor of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Auburn University, will talk about the regulations in America that help protect workers. He will discuss the history of the federal agency which oversees workplace safety in America, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). He will also discuss the lessons learned from workplace accidents such as the fertilizer explosion at Texas City in 1947, which killed 581 people and caused $100 million in damages.
Biography of Jerry Davis:
Dr. Davis is a Professor of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Auburn University. Jerry is a certified professional ergonomist (CPE) and certified safety professional (CSP) with twenty (20) years of specialized military human factors experience, and another fifteen (15) years as an academic teaching and performing research in ergonomics, occupational safety and systems safety engineering. His interest are in the areas of Work Measurement & Methods Engineering in which he has considerable expertise, including testifying in both State and Federal Courts in class action work measurement matters. Additionally, he routinely works in Occupational Safety and System safety Engineering. Most of Jerry’s recent work has been in the context of life safety, focusing on human performance in evacuation scenarios.
This program is not suitable for children under 6.
