#US-Primaries - Who can participate in the General Election, Caucuses, Primaries, and Political Conventions?
American citizens, regardless of race, color, gender or religion, ages 18 and older can register to vote. To register, voters must meet the residency requirements of their states. States have different rules regarding who can participate in caucuses and primaries.
Most states hold ‘closed’ primary elections, requiring that you be registered as a member of the political party in order to participate. Some states, like New Hampshire, have an open primary system, which lets voters cast a ballot for a candidate even if they are not a registered member of that political party.
