在2009年安德烈·里欧澳大利亚悉尼音乐会上，澳大利亚著名歌手艾伦·琼斯同台演唱了澳大利亚著名爱国歌曲《我是澳大利亚人》，现场上万名观众热情高涨，与歌手和乐队一起合唱，给人们留下了深刻而感人的印象。

I came from the dream-time, from the dusty red soil plains

我来自梦一般的遥远年代，来自沙尘飞扬的红土平原

I am the ancient heart, the keeper of the flame.

我是那颗古老的心，守护那不熄的火焰

I stood upon the rocky shore, I watched the tall ships come.

最近在澳洲各大城市都可以看到这种画报，为的是纪念早期移民到澳洲并为澳洲经济做出贡献的各个种族。19世纪中期澳洲大陆南部发现金矿的消息传出，来自世界各地的人民蜂拥至巴拉瑞特市，一个距离墨尔本以西112公里处，是维多利亚州第三大城市，又是澳洲最知名的淘金古城，其中从中国大陆的广东和福建等沿海地区就来了4万多华工，当时他们称美国为“旧金山”，将澳洲的巴拉瑞特称为“新金山”。到了20世纪初，这里的黄金已淘尽挖绝，金矿主关闭了大小矿山，长达50年的淘金浪潮就此成为了历史。现在的淘金古城于1970年代修复后，作为观光景点正式对公众开放。目前有160名工作人员穿着当年的服装在这里工作，给游客一种恍惚隔世之感。
