#亚太裔传统月# 20世纪80年代以来,寿司在美国极为流行。然而,美国的寿司已经演变成与日本的起源完全不同的东西。 虽然日本寿司植根于各种寿司厨师传下来的传统技艺,但美国的寿司却打破了这些规范。 例如,为了吸引有健康意识的消费者,许多寿司店用糙米取代了原来的白米做寿司。 加利福尼亚的一家快餐厅甚至将日本和拉丁风味混合在一起,创造出一款用大片紫菜叶作为外皮的寿司卷饼。

 

Sushi has been extremely popular in the United States since the 1980s. However, sushi in the U.S. has evolved to become something completely different from its Japanese origins. While Japanese sushi is rooted in the traditions of the various sushi chefs who have passed down their art, sushi in the U.S. breaks with these norms. For example, to appeal to health conscious consumer, many sushi establishments have replaced the original white sushi rice with brown rice. A fast casual restaurant in California has even mixed Japanese and Latin influence to create a sushi burrito in which large nori sheets forming the outer wrapping.

General Tso’s Chicken is almost universally available in Chinese restaurants across the United States. However, the same cannot be said about its fame outside U.S. borders. This chicken dish is lightly battered and covered in a mildly spicy sweet-and-sour sauce in a way that replicates Hunan cuisine. The origins of the dish are contested, the history of which is depicted in a documentary titled, “The Search for General Tso.” However, it is generally accepted that the dish’s popularity grew from several Chinese restaurants in New York who adapted the recipe to fit the tastes of American taste buds.
