Sexual Assault and Sexual Harassment – Victims’ Rightsand Protections in the United States

在过去的一年,媒体对性骚扰问题的关注唤醒了社会对性暴力和性骚扰的情感、心理和生理影响的重视。在美国的受害者诉诸一系列民事和刑事的救济措施,让施暴者负责。州和联邦均有相关立法,还有侵权诉讼等途径惩罚性暴力行为。受害者可以在刑事案件中寻求经济补偿,在民事诉讼中要求赔偿和罚款。本次讲座由美国司法部常驻法律顾问胡倚婷来分享性侵案件在美国的调查、处理,成功的维权案例和美国对施暴者起诉惩戒过程中的难点问题。

In the past year sexual harassment has gained a lot of mediaattention, leading to increased public awareness of the emotional, mental, andphysical impacts of experiencing sexual harassment and sexual violence, as wellas victims’ rights in reporting and holding offenders to account. In the UnitedStates, victims have legal options available to them, both civil andcriminal. For example, survivors can seek financial restitution incriminal cases, and compensatory and punitive damages in civil lawsuits. Pleasejoin us at the Beijing American Center for a talk by U.S. Department of JusticeResident Legal Advisor Ye-Ting Woo where she will discuss how these sexualoffenses are investigated and handled in American courts as well as the successstories and challenges associated with prosecuting sexual offenders.

 

This program will be conducted in English and Chinese.

Theprogram will start at 6:30pm and doors will open at 6pm. Please try to arriveat least 10 minutes before the program starts to allow enough time to gothrough security.
