收藏:这些文书帮助学生申请到理想学校 - 真实文书案例及文书写作三段论

昨日,我们妈妈圈的老朋友Andi老师和Tracy老师给我们的家长和同学分解了文书写作结构与方法,我们把这种方法总结成“三段式文书写作方法”,分享给大家。

申请美国大学的每一段文书不能超过650字,通常我们建议是在500650字,申请高中则最多不能超过500字。文书写作是很难的,学生在学校里学习和练习了很多分析文章、调查文章的写法,可是文书是一篇关于“我”的文章,如何能讲一个生动的“我”的故事,呈献给招生官一个鲜活的人,这对每个学生,都是一个不小的挑战。

文书写作,通常可分成“开篇”、“中间”及“结束语”三个部分,五个段落。这三个部分承担的作用不同,又互相呼应。

第一部分开篇段落。

我们通常把开篇段落称为“hook”(钩子),好的开篇段落能够迅速抓住招生官的眼球,即使招生官一天内已经读了100份文书,还是会饶有兴致地跟随你的开篇去阅读整篇文章。好的开篇,要定下整个文书的通调,介绍你要讲述的故事。

下面是两个好的文书开篇案例:

开篇案例一:

Darling,turn off the tap once you are done.

Mommy,thats the water crying...her tears are flowing.

Such was my response as a four-year-old, who loved to observe everything around me from a fresh perspective.

Drip! Often, when the shower tap lets out rays of water, new ideas emerge. Admiring waters clarity and its power to refresh me, I turn off the tap and wander off to transform ideas into reality.

开篇案例二:

Who am I? That is a question I never asked myself until the summer before my seventh grade. I had been studying in an international schoolsince nursery. I was the only Chinese child in the whole school for a long time and I was always proud of that fact. I spoke English at school and Chinese at home. Since I was four, I was used to living in two completely different worlds in one day. It may be because my own thoughts werent fully developed that I had never questioned in which world I really belonged.

第二部分中间段落。

中间段落通常为2-3段,我们有时称中间段落为“肉”。考生需要在这个部分构建文书的主体,把要阐述的要点在中间段落阐述清楚。要注意确保你的写作是注意细节的,而不是空洞的泛泛而谈。

案例一:

My primary impression of the two worlds I had been living in was becoming blurred as I didnt interact with people from different nationalities and was immersed completely in a Chinese world. When I wouldthink back to the time when I was studying at the international school, it seemed like a lifetime ago. The experiences were so different. Knowing what I know now, I believe I made the right decision to study in the Chinese national system for my middle school years.

案例二:

As an aspiring writer who has published my creative thoughts in different magazines, this past summer, I decided to further my interests by interning at Caixin Media. Amid the fervor of media agencies fighting for newinformation that interviewees sometimes unwittingly admit, I was honored to interview one of Africas most influential economists, philanthropists, and billionaires, Tony Elumelu.Instead of being confined by my role as an intern, I regarded this interview as an opportunity to culminate a long-time vision that formed from my experienceas a student journalist - getting my interviewees to honestly exchange opinions, via me, with readers.

第三部分结尾段落。

结尾段落是对整篇文章的总结,可以在结尾段落再强调你希望表达的要点,另外,结尾的段落还有一个作用,是可以将整个文书贯穿起来,让写作浑然一体。在写完后,最终要的一点是要重新检查一下文书内容,然后回过头看文书题目,扪心自问,我是不是真的回答了文书的题目,这一点很重要。

下面两个案例是两篇文书的结尾,文书的开头我们也用在了开篇段落的案例中。我们可以看到,第一个案例以水开头,以水结尾,用水贯穿整个文书,可以看到水对考生的重要,和对考生的深刻影响;第二个案例以whoam I开头,又以whoam I结尾,全文一气呵成,表达了考生在两个教育体制之间经过痛苦历练最终成长的故事。

案例一:

Drip... As time passes, the metaphorical significance of water in my life becomes even greater, for I trust the power of a raindrop to moisten the dry lips of African children, melt away their tears, and stimulate laughter through gentle tickles.

Dripping.... Suppose that water symbolizes a well-rounded university education experience that furthers my respect for authentic trustand helps me become that raindrop?

Drop. Trust me, it does.

案例二:

Who am I? I am no longer eastern or western but a combination of both educational systems, fusing the creativity and freedom of expression from the west with the discipline andstructure of the east. Drawing upon the two different experiences, I believe I can help solve different problems in unique ways. This is the reason why the lines differentiating my two worlds are weakened, yet I am stronger.

文书撰写小窍门

  • 从中间开始写。文章开篇需要精彩、抓人人心,很多时候,考生卡在开篇,无法动笔。这时,其实可以从中间部分开始,先写下要讲述的故事,再回头考虑开篇的撰写。

  • 要用自己的语言。招生官有考生的所有标准化考试情况,知道考生的英语水平,文书的英语水平可以高于考试,但不能明显高于考试中考生的水平。

  • 慎用特殊符号。当你用斜体、粗体、下划线的时候,一定要谨慎,确保自己正确使用这些特殊符号。

  • 讲述“你”的故事。文书基本是唯一一个渠道让招生官“看到”真实的考生,所以千万牢记,选择最有感觉的文书命题,从自己的内心深处撰写文书。
