祖籍江苏太仓的朱棣文（Steven Chu）出生于密苏里州圣路易斯的一个华人知识分子家庭，在纽约长岛长大。1997年，他凭借激光致冷捕捉技术研究领域的成就荣获诺贝尔物理学奖；12年后，美国联邦参议院无异议通过奥巴马总统对朱棣文担任能源部长的提名。

With ancesters from Jiangsu Taicang, Chu (Steven Chu) was born in St. Louis, Missouri, to a Chinese intellectual family.  He grew up in Long Island, New York . In 1997, he received the Noble Prize in Physics for his research acheivements with laser cooling technology; 12 years later, the US Senate approved his nomination by President Obama as the U.S. Secretary of Energy.
