Reporting into the Product Design Manager, the role carries responsibility for adding value to the design proposition from earliest research and insight through to design for manufacture. 

You will be working on projects in a diverse and growing product portfolio including Consumer, B2B, Structural Packaging, all with high confidentiality. Frequently in the form of world-first products.

The role requires a natural aptitude for aesthetic form and close collaboration with a team of Industrial / Product designers, engineers, material scientists and technologists; therefore, an ability to observe and communicate evidence-based foundations for your creative ideas and concepts. Have an awareness of the wider technical and manufacturing capabilities to bring a product from concept to reality and have an understanding of trends and the consumer electronic market.

Applicants must have a keen interest in new technology and product design and be able to generate ideas, prototypes and presentation material of exceptional quality. The successful candidate is likely to have a minimum of 6 years’ professional activity and will demonstrate an outstanding design portfolio containing evidence of in-market products.

You will have exceptional graphical skills including rapid communication of ideas (both outstanding hand sketching and ability to effectively use Adobe Creative Suite), to proven 3D CAD competency (preferably SolidWorks and/or PTC ProE / Creo). KeyShot rendering and 3D animation software expertise would be an advantage.

As part of the Product Development team, perform one or more of the following duties as assigned by Design to support the team’s goals:

-   Taking products from concept to production

-   Develop 3D models of products for prototyping and production within tight lead-times

-   Assist with rendering visuals for client presentations and use within the wider business

-   Communication with suppliers based across the world

-   Communicate effectively within the team as well as the wider business

-   Responsible for leading, participating in or supporting the following product development activities

-   Concept, planning, design and execution stages of major new products or product enhancements

-   Risk assessment

-   Prototyping & testing

-   Monitoring of pilot production builds

-   Design reviews

-   Design verification

-   Design validation

-   Flexibility to travel when required (the role will require international and national travel, sometimes at late notice)

-   Designing products for manufacture

-   Excellent problem solving abilities

-   Bachelor Degree in Industrial Design or equivalent

-   Minimum 6 years’ industry experience

-   Visualization and detailing of design using sketches

-   Proven knowledge and experience with CAD packages such as SolidWorks and PTC ProE / Creo is essential

-   Complex surface modelling skills a must

-   Ability to work in both Mac and PC formats

-   Knowledge of manufacturing processes and technologies, most importantly injection moulding and an understanding of mould manufacture

-   Relevant experience of designing detailed injection moulded products

-   Have an eye for fine detail

-   Self-starter – ability to work independently, plan ahead and prioritize tasks and workload

-   Ability to work well in a fast paced team environment

-   An exceptional and diverse portfolio

-   Mandarin communication (an advantage)

-   Flexible in other related design disciplines. For example; packaging or graphic design

-   Strong skills in Adobe Creative suite

-   Product photography experience
