The Team

China’s rapid economic growth has made it one of the world’s largest economies today and this growth looks set to continue. KPMG's Global China Practice (GCP) was established in September 2010 to assist Chinese businesses that plan to go global, and multinational companies that aim to enter or expand into the China market. This person will be a key member supporting China inbound M&A and FDI activities into the UK, directly reporting to the Partner & Head of UK-China Business based in London. The focus of this role will be to develop opportunities, build client relationships, and provide management of the transactions. 

This role sits in the UK-China business, to develop cross-border M&A and FDI opportunities, primarily from China to UK. The UK-China business assists UK companies with China entry and expansion plans, and advises on both inbound and outbound China investments and trade. This UK-based team will also assist with matters across the investment and trade life cycle, including market entry strategy development and implementation, including due diligence, location studies, investment holding structuring, tax planning and compliance, supply chain management, M&A advisory and post-deal integration. You will be a part of a practice which enjoys strong relations with both British and Chinese Governments.


The Role

-   Business development in FDI and M&A (focus)
-   Develop business relations in the UK and China, with a focus on Chinese investment into UK;
-   Identify and qualify investment interests or M&A strategies from China
-   Conduct market research in the UK and European market accordingly, and work with the KPMG Deal Advisory sector experts to identify potential targets
-   Develop target profiles and teaser document for discussion with potential investors and reiterate refine the understanding of the clients’ investment strategies and target lists accordingly
-   Assist in winning mandates from either the buy or sell side
-   Assist in any sell-side mandate pitches by identifying potential buyers from China and build relationships for potential sales; 
-   Assist in the management and execution of transactions where appropriate and required
-   Business development with UK businesses entering the Chinese market;
-   Business development with established Chinese organisations in the UK
-   Act as a key stakeholder relation management, with organisations such as the Chinese government, UK government, and Chambers of Commerce
-   Assist in the design and organisation of China related marketing events


The Person

-   Excellent written and verbal communication skills
-   Strong organisational skills and high attention to detail
-   Ability to interact and communicate effectively at the most senior levels, as well as with peers and more junior members of the team
-   A pro-active and flexible work approach, and capability to work in a high-pressure environment
-   A ‘can do’ attitude and confidence to challenge the status quo, and initiate as well as follow-through on improvement initiatives 
-   A self-starter who can work autonomously 


Essential

-   Research and strategic analytical skills
-   Communication and interpersonal skills
-   Collaboration skills 
-   Negotiation and persuasion skills
-   Mandarin speaker, fluent in reading and writing in Chinese 


Desirable

-   Corporate finance, M&A, and investment background strongly preferred
-   Previous business development experience preferred
