River Access Area - Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River

#Traveling Around the U.S. –  Site of the Week: Delaware Recreation Area

On Christmas day, 1776, George Washington and his army crossed the Delaware River to launch a surprise attack at Trenton. 240 year later, the Delaware has remained much as it was then. As one of the last great undammed rivers in the Eastern United States, the river is still quite natural, running through forests, silent pools and rapids. Visitors can also go onto river to do a bit of canoeing.  They can also come to McConkery’s Ferry to see where Washington crossed the river. The site includes a museum, 13 historic buildings and replica boats. You can test yourself on American history.
