Population aging is a global phenomenon. The United States became a critically aging society in 2014, while some parts of China have also become critically aging. This means more than 14% of the total population is aged 65 or above, which poses serious challenges to the sustainable development of both countries.

This lecture will focus on three aspects: 1. Objective understanding of population aging. What is population aging? And why is it aging? Is it a danger or an opportunity? 2. Comparison of population aging between China and the United States. As the two largest economies in the world today, what are the differences and similarities in the formation, status quo, and development trends for population aging between China and the U.S.? What are its characteristics? 3. Actively responding to population aging. From the perspective of strength, how can society actively cope with an increasingly aging population through social participation for the elderly, “smart aging,” and elderly-friendly environments?

* This event will be conducted in Chinese. The contents of the presentation represent the speaker’s opinions and research only.
