Full-time employee

A full-time employee has ongoing employment and works, on average, around38 hours each week. The actual hours of work for an employee in a particularjob or industry are agreed between the employer and the employee and/or set byan award or registered agreement.

全职工作指员工平均每周工作时间在38小时左右。具体工作时间根据特定的工作种类或者行业雇主与员工所达成的协议来确定。

Changing from full-time to part-time or casual employment

工作形式向兼职或者临时员工的转变

Whenthe employer and the employee agree to change

An employee and an employer may agree to end an employee’s full-timeposition and change to part-time or casual employment.

雇主和雇员达成协议终止全职工作并且转变为兼职或者临时员工职位

When changing from full-time to casual the usual rules for endingemployment apply, including:

当转变工作形式时,通常准则包括雇主:

giving or paying the employee the required notice

paying out leave and any other entitlements owed.

Whenthe employee doesn’t agree to change

An employer may be able to change an employee’s full-time employment topart-time or casual employment without agreement from the employee.

An employer can’t change or end an employee’s employment:

for a discriminatory reason

because the employee has exercised a workplace right

for another reason protected by law.

Part-time employees

A part-time employee:

works, onaverage, less than 38 hours per week

is entitled tothe same benefits as a full-time employee, but on a pro rata basis

is a permanentemployee or on a fixed-term contract.

Whatpart-time employees get

Part-timeemployees get the same minimum entitlements (such as sick leave and holidayleave) as a full-time employee, based on how many hours they work each week.

Casual employees

A casual employee:

has no guaranteedhours of work

没有固定的工作时间

usually worksirregular hours

doesn't getpaid sick or annual leave

can endemployment without notice, unless notice is required by a registered agreement,award or employment contract.

What docasual employees get?

Casual employees are entitled to:

a higher hourlypay rate than equivalent full-time or part-time employees. This is called a'casual loading' and is paid because they don't get benefits such as sick orannual leave

比全职员工和兼职员工更高的工资,因为他们无法获得带薪病假或者年假的福利

2 days unpaidcarer's leave and 2 days unpaid compassionate leave per occasion

2天不带薪照顾假期和2天不带薪探亲假

unpaidcommunity service leave.

Long term casual employees

After 12 months of regular employment, and if it’slikely the regular employment will continue, a casual employee can:
