After terrorist attack, we see more solidarity

We deeply appreciate the many messages of condolence, sympathy, support and solidarity that we are receiving from our friends from around the world in wake of the terrorist attacks in Christchurch on Friday 15 March 2019.

On the night of the attack, New Zealand Governor-General, Prime Minister, and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs respectively received condolence messages from Chinese President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Keqiang, and State Councilor and Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi. We have extended our heartfelt thanks to China's leaders and people, for their solidarity and support at this difficult time.

This was a deplorable and unprecedented terrorist attack. Our Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has strongly condemned this senseless act of violence against innocent people, and described it as one of New Zealand's "darkest days".

This act of terror goes against the core of what New Zealand stands for. We represent diversity, kindness, compassion. Those values will - and cannot - be shaken by this attack.

Our thoughts and prayers are with those who have been impacted.
