Views to pine for

-- Anna Anderson 3 June 2014

Water views: The Discovery PointShore North apartment block.

A room with a view is one thing, but a home with a water view isconsidered prime property. In any apartment block where some units overlook thewater, it is those apartments that command a premium price.

公寓房有景很不错,有水景就更高上了。任何公寓楼里的水景房要价也最高。

Sydney’s majestic harbour and waterways and its undulating topography meanmany home owners are blessed with water views. Far fewer, however, have theluxury of living in a new apartment overlooking the water. When buyers do findsuch a coveted home it usually comes with a hefty price tag.

Yet, some developers are building new apartments in Sydney that offerwater views and value for money.

Artist's impression: Discovery Point.

Tenkilometres south of the CBD on the shores of the Cooks River, the last waterfront building in the master-plannedDiscovery Point is ready to launch. The North tower of Shore is creating a buzzfollowing the popularity of the East Tower, which sold quickly off the planwhen it launched late last year.

“We released Shore East in December quickly selling more than 80 percent,” says Nigel Edgar, NSW residential division manager of Australand. He notes more than 70 per cent of the Shore North release is priced at$850,000 or lower and more than 75 per cent of those apartments feature a waterview.

他指出在Shore North这栋新盘里,百分之七十的公寓标价在85万澳币或以下,75%的公寓能看河。

“Our buyers are telling us they see value in Discovery Point.”

And it’s not just the view buyers are after. Discovery Point is 10kilometres from the CBD. It has Wolli Creek train station on site and is justone stop from the airport and five from the city. Covering six hectares, itincorporates three hectares of public open space. “I can’t think of a paralleldevelopment with so much public amenity and such good transport connections soclose to the city,” Edgar says.

Water view seals deal

After spending the day at work in the city, Henry He is looking forward torelaxing in his new apartment overlooking the Cooks River.

He, 26, was in the queue on the launch day of Discovery Point’s Shore Easttower last December. He secured a two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment with acar space on level nine paying $815,000. 26岁,201312月,购买了Disvovery Point的一套九楼、两室两卫一车位的水景公寓,81.5万澳币。(Discovery Point离市中心CBD10公里。)

“My priorities were firstly, good transport, then price and then a waterview,” says He. “I am an accountant working in the city. It’s very importantfor me to live near train transport.”

But the water view was a deal-maker. “Chinese people like water viewsbecause water means fortune.”

但水景是最后那笔交易成功的关键。“中国人喜欢水景,因为在中国,水能生财。”
