A retired four-star general was no match for a four-star Chinese restaurant.

The 84-year-old grabbed a man delivering Chinese food to his Georgia home by the throat and pushed him against the refrigerator after he refused to take a check, police said.

William (Bill) Livsey, a decorated soldier who fought in the Korean and Vietnam wars, was arrested by Fayetteville police Saturday on a litany of charges tied to the bad delivery.

“It was the worst thing that happened to me in all of my life,” Livsey told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “Ten cops here for one 84-year-old man.”

The Royal Chef China Bistro in Fayetteville, boasting four-star reviews on Yelp and located about 20 miles south of Atlanta, said Livsey tried to pay with his debit card, but it was declined. The general then offered a check for the $80.60 bill, police said.

Ryan Irvin, the delivery man, told Livsey the restaurant didn’t accept checks and he’d have to take back the food.

That’s when Livsey got physical, pushing Irvin against the 'fridge, police allege.

Two other people in the home took the food and began eating it on a counter as Irvin left without the meal or payment, the AJC reported.

Police were called about 7 p.m. and a confrontation ensued, with Livsey attempting to kick the arresting officer as he placed him in the police cruiser. Three officers were needed to subdue the veteran, The Citizen reported.

“It’s the first time in my life I’m ashamed to be an American,” Livsey told AJC. “They took me away without my shoes, glasses or medicine.”

Livsey, charged with theft of services, two counts of obstruction of officers, simple assault, terroristic threats and acts to robbery, was released on his own recognizance by the judge.

A highway in Georgia is named in the general's honor.
