November marks the National American Indian and AlaskaNative Heritage Month, celebrating the diverse communities and cultures thatcomprise the native peoples of the Americas. American Indians are an oftenmisunderstood group of U.S. citizens. Today, there are roughly 5.2 millionAmericans (approximately 1.7% of the population) who are American Indian orhave American Indian backgrounds in combination with another race. Throughout this month we will be profiling Native Americans who have excelled orare excelling in various disciplines across the arts, business and science.
