I'm 43 years old and I owe tens of thousands of dollars in student loans.

Oh sure, I knew the loans were piling up as I went through school. But with one loan coming from here, another from there, I had no idea of the rockslide that was building. Fifteen years later, I still experience moments of sheer horror regarding my family's financial situation. My monthly student loan payment is more than triple my car payment. OK, so without my college degree, I would not have been able to get my current job. For that I'm grateful; but at what cost ?

My loans have been accruing at a rate of 10 percent, and now they have burgeoned to — well, I'm an English major, you do the math.(我的贷款以10%的速度增长,现在它们已经增长到了——我是英语专业的,你们来算吧。) I don't think they'll ever get paid off. We're in debt way past our eyeballs, and there's no hope in sight.(我们的眼中只有债务,视野中完全没有希望。) I'm being kept in class — a financial class of graduates whose only hope for attending college meant borrowing money from the government. Because of our mounting credit card debt and monthly payments that far exceed our family's income, my kids will also join the class of citizens who can't rely on their parents for college support.

Do I wish I'd chosen another educational route? You bet. Perhaps trade school(职业技术学校) — I've thought that being a plumber might not be such a bad gig. But if your job aspirations require a four-year degree, take my advice and choose a college you can afford, both during and after graduation. Take a realistic look at your anticipated income, and factor in priorities that don't carry a price — like the spouse and children you might want to have some day.(现实的看待你预期的收入,以及那些无价的、需要你优先考虑的事物——比如说你未来会有的配偶和孩子。)I was overconfident that my student-loan debt would pale in comparison to the lucrative writing career I'd enjoy after graduation. Now I'm paying for that decision — in more ways than I'd ever imagined.

Retell Lecture

In this lecture, the speaker talked about her student loan.

In the beginning, she mentioned that she was forty-three years old and still owing thousands of dollars of student loan. Her student loan payment was triple of her car payment.

She then went to talked that without her degree, she would not get her current job and for this she was grateful. But she paid too much for it.

After that, she said her children would not be able to rely on her on college tuitions due to their family financial situation.

By way of conclusion, she suggested the students to take realistic looks of their future income and choose affordable colleges both during and after graduation. She was overconfident about her future career as a writer and now she is paying for the decision.

Summarize Spoken text

The forty-three-year-old woman is still paying her student loan after fifteenth years of graduation because the loan is piling up. She would not get her current job without the degree but it has cost too much and her family’s financial situation is horrible due to the loan. She suggests us to take a realistic look of our future incomes and choose affordable colleges both during and after graduation.
