一年一度的RIBA（英国皇家建筑师学会,Royal Institute of British Architect）年度最佳建筑公布了2017年的获奖作品，从伦敦的政府公屋，节能环保住宅，到世界首个“垂直码头”，大英博物馆的全球保护与展览中心，共49个项目获得2017年的最佳建筑殊荣。
值得注意的是，在各类奖项中可持续发展设计得到广泛认可。从Norwich的生态草坪办公室到Sheffield的生物质发电厂，都在讲述可持续的环保理念。 尤其是靠近Maidstone的Caring Wood，可应对气候变化进行碳中和，其出色的可持续特质得到认可。

当然，创新设计也一直备受追捧。位于Suffolk的孔雀之家(Peacock House)以古怪、创新的设计赢得关注，不透明的外观下隐藏了一系列古怪的内部和外部空间。

位于Northumberland的Shawn House是设计师Richard Pender为他年长的父母设计的，为老人们提供了一个便于管理的高质量住宅。
15座伦敦建筑上榜
获奖作品中，15座建筑来自首都伦敦，包括Dulwich College的实验室，Finsbury Circus 8号，以及办公空间The Loom等。
RIBA主席Jane Duncan表示：“砖结构建筑还是伦敦地产项目的首选，泰特现代艺术馆的屋顶画廊以及位于Barrett区的私人住宅Grove就是两个很好的例子，这种传统建筑材料在伦敦依旧受欢迎。在伦敦以外，木材建筑越来越火。它用途广泛且价格相对低廉，全英国运用都很广泛，从Bedales School复杂晶格木材包层的外部，到精美工业设备内饰的曼彻斯特Finlays仓库。”
其中，又名Switch Housey的建筑是泰特现代美术馆巨型拓展项目，位于伦敦泰晤士河畔，最具特色的是其免费的屋顶画廊，可欣赏伦敦优美的全景。

此次获奖名单中还包括伦敦的一处政府公屋。位于北肯辛顿的Silchester Estate被RIBA评委誉为“政府公屋的示范”。其他获奖的政府公屋还包括北伦敦Ponders End的Dujardin Mews。

“缺少高质量的新建住宅是英国面临的巨大问题，因此我特别高兴地看到那些精心设计且可持续发展的新建住宅获奖”，RIBA主席Jane Duncan表示。
“不管我们住在哪儿，都值得享受到设计精良、可负担的住房。我鼓励其他地方政府、开发商以及客服们将这些项目作为案例。”
商业建筑
除了部分私人住宅，在获奖的完整名单中商业建筑和公共建中占了很大篇幅，而获奖作品的主人也不乏许多熟悉的名字，比如伦敦警察署总部——新苏格兰场，戴森公司的阳光房，大英博物馆，UEA等大学。

最令人眼前一亮的当属位于布莱顿的英航i360，它是世界首个垂直码头也是最高的可移动瞭望塔。
另外，获奖的49个项目中有6栋个人住宅将继续角逐备受关注的年度最佳房子奖(House of the Year Award)。
