美国和中国支持官方教育交流项目超过一百年。1909年庚子赔款奖学金被设立以支持中国学生到美国大学学习。从1909年到1929年，约有1300名中国学生参与该项目。其中很多人日后成为杰出的领导者，担任政府和各种学术领域的高级和有影响的职位，部分原因是他们所受美国高等教育的重要影响。

The United States and China have supported official educational exchange programs for more than a hundred years. In 1909, the Boxer Indemnity Scholarship Program was established to support Chinese students to study at American universities. From 1909-1929, approximately 1,300 Chinese students participated in the scholarship program. Many of these students would later became prominent leaders, assuming high level, influential posts in government and various fields of academia due in part to the significant impact of their American higher education.
Please join us at the Beijing American Center for a discussion with Ambassador Julia Chang Bloch, the first U.S. ambassador of Asian descent, and Dr. Hou Qie’an, professor at Beijing Administrative College, and adjunct professor at Beijing Normal University. The discussion will include an overview of current educational exchanges between the U.S. and China, the history of the Boxer Indemnity Fund, as well as provide personal insights into Ambassador Bloch’s father, Boxer Indemnity Scholar Mr. Chang Fu-Yun. Mr. Chang, was the first Chinese graduate of Harvard Law School and the first Chinese citizen to oversee the Chinese Maritime Customs Service.
