The test will normally last about 30mins, although it may take longer/shorter. We understand your language profile is AB, i.e. A being your mother tongue and B being an active language you work into and out of. You will therefore be tested following the AB test format, as explained below:

You will listen to a short, structured oral presentation (4-6 minutes) in your B language. You will then be asked to deliver an oral summary which you will deliver in your A language. Your oral summary should last approximately 2 minutes and should reflect the main ideas and arguments put forward by the speaker. We ask you not to take notes during the listening stage.

【The panel will be assessing your analytical skills, your ability to recognise and reflect the speaker’s intention and your use of your mother tongue.】

This will work in exactly the same way as the first exercise but the original speech will be given in you’re a language and you will summarise it in your B language.

The panel will ask you a few questions in your A and B languages on the topics of the speeches you summarised or on current affairs in general.

Please note that you will have to pass all three rounds to be able to pass the whole test. Should you fail the first one or two rounds, your test will be terminated, i.e. you will not be tested for the second and/or the third round. The panel reserves the right of terminating the test at any point.

Also, either before or after your test, you may have the opportunity to discuss the course, career prospects, employer links or anything else you might be interested in with the panel, depending on the time.

You will receive your test result from us (by email) within 10 working days.

Should you pass the test, the panel will also send you a test report detailing areas where you are advised to improve between now and the start of the academic year. However, such report will not be provided for those who fail the test.
Please also note that the test cannot be re-taken and the panel’s decision is final.
