accompany, conduct, attend,

这些动词均有“陪同,伴随”之意。

1. accompany 既可指人也可指物。用于人时,侧重关系紧密或同时发生。如:

He prepared to silently accompany her.

Once he made bold to ask her to accompany him to a party.

I was unable to accept your invitation, having promised to accompany my mother to the concert.

2. conduct 无论用于人或物均指引导带领。如:

The class was conducted in English.

He conducted a company of tourists.

Negotiations were conducted by an exchange of notes.

3. attend 侧重主从关系,即下级对上级,学生对老师等,或表恭、服侍。如:

Martin himself attended the sick moll.

4. escort 通常指用车或人在陆上伴随、护送,其目的是保护或出于礼节。如:

A group of soldiers escorted the President.

The queen was escorted by the directors as she toured the factory.
