Main Roles Of The Job

This is an innovative project working to help people with mental health needs gain and retain paid / unpaid employment. You will need to provide individual and group interventions, guidance and support and be a flexible individual able to work in a variety of settings.
You will need to be able to communicate effectively at all levels as your role will include meeting with corporate and business organisations, facilitating training and events, as well as working with the work placement candidates to support their mental health needs.
Please note, due to the nature of the role it is a prerequisite that candidates are fluent in English, Cantonese and Mandarin to be considered.
Your role will include the following duties:

Support clients who face disadvantages due to their health needs get into unpaid or paid employment through the delivery of this project.

Ascertain the employment and education needs of individuals; organise and facilitate in-house training programme; develop appropriate work placements and opportunities.

Engage with potential employers, job agencies and Chinese SMEs to raise mental health awareness, develop supported work placements or employment opportunities for the clients.


Main Tasks

Working With Service Users

-  To recruit service users with employment needs into the project

-  To support and motivate users into and maintaining employment on an on-going basis

-  To develop in-house employment related training programmes

-  To setup and facilitate user forums


Working With Employers And Work Agencies

-  To search for resources for employment opportunities

-  To work with other agencies (e.g. Job Centre Plus, Mind, Shaw Trust) to maximise work placements and employment opportunities

-  To develop partnerships with local SMEs in the Chinese community in central London (e.g. China Town) to provide work placements and employment opportunities for service users

-  To facilitate corporate social responsibility (CSR) training and events

-  To work with placement candidates to support their mental health needs


Project Coordination

-  To set up a steering group for the project

-  To develop project evaluation and monitoring framework

-  To perform evaluation and monitoring of the project

-  To operate within the project budget

-  To produce project report and evaluation report

-  To recruit and train volunteers for this project


Dissemination

-  To disseminate work in seminars and conferences with users

-  To collect users’ feedback and evaluation on a regular basis

-  To maximise opportunities for users to participate in local or national events, exchange programs to achieve the core aims of the employment project


General Duties

-  To develop and maintain a comprehensive information system for the project

-  To submit regular report to the line manager of CMHA, management committee and steering group with verbal and written report on progress

-  To adhere to all policies including equal opportunity policy and volunteer policy at all times

-  To adhere strictly to confidentiality in relation to both direct client work and the interest of CMHA

-  To perform other tasks upon request by the CEO and line manager in CMHA


Person Specification

This is a great job opportunity for candidates who have the relevant experience and skill sets to work with Chinese people with mental health needs. The post holder will need to be organised, self-motivated, and a quick learner. This project requires working with users and employers at all levels.


Essential

-  First degree in social work, sociology, psychology or other related disciplines

-  Min. 3 years experience working with Chinese people with mental health needs

-  Proven track record of facilitating events, user forums and training programmes

-  Fluent in three languages namely English, Cantonese and Mandarin

-  Ability to work on one’s own initiatives and self-motivated

-  Good interpersonal and communication skills

-  Knowledge and understanding of Chinese mental health issues in the context of health and social care


Desirable

-  Ability to work flexibly with other colleagues within the team

-  Experience of planning service improvement and seeing through its implementation

-  Up to date knowledge and experience of project coordination including budgeting, monitoring and evaluation techniques

-  Counselling skills
