一．基本情况
新西兰的高等教育机构包括大学、理工学院和教育学院。
到目前为止，新西兰共有8所公立大学。这些大学开办一系列的标准学位课程，其中包括理科、文科和近年来兴起的商科和信息科学。
新西兰的理工学院目前共有19所，提供各种职业及技术培训，包括短期课程和三年制、四年制的专业学位、文凭、证书课程。部分理工学院和大学可以互相转换学分(例如商科)，学生在理工学院所修某些课程学分为大学所承认，其毕业后入读大学可以免修有关课程。
新西兰有4所独立的教育学院，由政府拨款，承担为小学、中学、幼儿教育中心和特殊教育机构培训师资的任务。
新西兰大学的学位由新西兰大学校长委员会下设的学术委员会批准，而理工学院及极少数私立高等教育学校所授的文凭由新西兰资格认证局 (NZQA) 负责审批和监督。
