最近几年，为了确保新西兰人能排在移民之前获得工作，新西兰政府一直有一些移民政策微调。近期移民净流入数较前期有所增长，全年移民净流入约38,000人，但和十年前工党执政时的42,000人相比还有一定差距，政府表示并无意调整移民政策。
面对新西兰劳动力市场仍存在的严重技术人员短缺，新西兰移民局官网发布消息，称政府已同意对“新西兰定居计划”（New Zealand ResidenceProgramme）做出调整，依照项目规划，在2014年7月至2016年6月底之间，新西兰将从海外“引入” 90,000至100,000名移民。具体配额将分配如下：

The government hasagreed to establish a two-year New Zealand Residence Programme (NZRP), to runfrom the beginning of July 2014 until the end of June 2016.
The NZRP provides aplanning range of the number of people approved for New Zealand residence, andis divided into different residence streams: Skilled/Business, Family andInternational/Humanitarian. It aims to ensure an optimal level of immigrationinto New Zealand for economic growth, enhanced international linkages and ahigh level of social cohesion.
Cabinet has agreed atotal planning range of 90,000 to 100,000 residence approvals in the two-yearperiod from July 2014 to June 2016, with a breakdown between residence streamsas outlined in the table below:
