(The Great British Bucket List)”。

“遗愿清单”英语表达为The Bucket List;说来有趣,to kick the bucket意为“死掉”,俗称“翘辫子”。

(Pembrokeshire coast)

(Black Rock Sands)

The Great British Bucket List

Recently over 1000 British adults took partin a survey which simply asked “What are the top activities in the UK you would like to do before you die”.

The results of this experiment led to creation of “The Great British Bucket List”!

Are you familiar with the term “bucket list”?

The term was popularized by the 2007 film“The Bucket List” starring Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman. (The main plot follows two terminally ill men on their road trip with a wish list of things to do before they "kick the bucket").

The British bucket list actually has 50 items on it. I am going to cover the first 12 items and I found a photo for each “bucket list item” that I think illustrates well what the activity is all about. I may do a list of “honourable mentions” in another post that will go through a selection of some of the other equally interesting activities.

British people’s favourite activities range from the cultural to the culinary and sporting, with plenty of sight-seeing thrown in for good measure.

So here are some UK-based activities that Brits think everyone should try at least once!

#1 –Eat fish and chips on a seaside pier

This is an interesting one. Surprised?

Like pretty much all items on the list, youdon’t need to be rich and spend a lot of money. You just need to have the time and will (and physically being in the UK would help!)

Actress Kate Winslet and footballers Wayne Rooney and John Terry all served fish and chips at their weddings. Sir Paul McCartney used to love tucking into the national dish before he became avegetarian.

#2 - See whales off Wales

Cardigan Bay and the Pembrokeshire coast are two principal areas for watching marine wild life in Wales.

#3 –Go to the night at the Proms at the Albert Hall

The Proms, more formally known as The BBC Proms, is an eight-week summer season of daily orchestral classical music concerts and other events held annually, predominantly in the Royal Albert Hall in London.

#4 –Visit the Giant’s Causeway

The Giant's Causeway is an area of about 40,000 interlocking basalt columns, the result of an ancient volcanic eruption. It is located in County Antrim on the northeast coast of Northern Ireland.

#5 –Have a picnic at an open air concert

You're only young once: Glastonbury Festival was another of the iconic experiences every Briton should have in their lifetime.

#6 –Go to the London Eye

The London Eye is a giant Ferris wheel on the South Bank of the River Thames in London.

#7 –Travel Scotland’s West Coast by rail

The top-rated Scottish experience was touring the spectacular West Coast by train

#8 –Watch a Shakespeare play in Stratford-upon-Avon

Stratford-upon-Avon is a market town and civil parish in south Warwickshire, England. The town is a popular tourist destination owing to its status as birthplace of the playwright and poet William Shakespeare, receiving about 4.9 million visitors a year from all over the world.

#9 –Dine in Gordon Ramsay restaurant

Gordon Ramsay's level of celebrity has reached such a fever pitch that it has become very nearly impossible to get a table at the small restaurant that first established the belligerent ex-Rangers footballeras the biggest name in British food.

The dishes are beautifully presented, as the following photos demonstrate:

#10– Go to a British Grand Prix

The British Grand Prix is a race in the calendar ofthe FIA Formula One World Championship. It is currently held at the Silverstone Circuit near the village of Silverstone in Northamptonshire. The British and Italian Grands Prix are the oldest continuously staged Formula One World Championship Grands Prix.

#11– See inside the Houses of Parliament

Houses of Parliament tours are high in demand, early booking is recommended!

#12– Get the Ffestiniog railway up Snowdon

Snowdonia is a region in north Wales and a national park of 823 square miles (2,130 km2) in area.

The Ffestiniog Railway is a narrow gauge heritage railway, located in Gwynedd, Wales. It is a major tourist attraction located mainly within the Snowdonia National Park.

Splendind views: Harlech Castle commands the heights above the Glaslyn estuary.

Snowdonia has many remote stretches of coast, such as Black Rock Sands.
