NZSIS has a number of Linguist roles for the right people to help analyse and interpret information and provide accurate reporting to our customers. We are seeking enthusiastic, reliable and capable persons who have New Zealand Citizenship, a checkable background, the right attitude and cultural knowledge.

While you will work predominantly on Mandarin, a high level of competency in English is essential.

A significant proportion of the role entails distilling meaning from information and over a significant period of time to identify those keys pieces of intelligence that help solve the investigation puzzle. Your skills and cultural awareness will be invaluable as you will be asked to make a real contribution to team discussions as well as developing key assessments. You will enable the NZSIS to take a well-informed view of potential threats to national security.

Foundation skills for the role are:

discretion, discretion & more discretion;

excellent command of English and Mandarin;

excellent written & verbal skills;

patience and attention to detail;

an interest in presenting raw data in a format that will give a clear picture;

an ability to learn how to manipulate analytical software;

a willingness to be flexible in hours and type of work; and

a quest to formalise your skills through extra training and gaining qualifications.
