Part-time for three months from October 2016 (Monday, Thursday, Friday)

Founded in 1882 the Royal College of Music [RCM] is one of the world’s leading conservatoires providing specialised musical education and professional training at the highest international level for performers and composers.

The Communications and Marketing department at the RCM manages internal and external communications and is responsible for upholding the RCM brand worldwide. The team produces all core publications, oversees the RCM website, manages all media relations and corporate communications, as well as promoting programmes of study, concerts and events and runs the RCM Box Office.

This paid internship offers an exciting opportunity for someone who is considering a career in marketing in higher education or the arts to learn first-hand what is involved.

We are looking for a Mandarin speaker to assist in setting up and managing our Chinese social media accounts. Applicants should have previous experience in using Chinese social media, have a good eye for design and be fluent in Mandarin and English.

Good attention to detail, a solid knowledge of IT, excellent organisation and oral and written communication skills are essential. Applicants will ideally have some prior experience of office-based administrative and copywriting with an interest in or knowledge of classical music.

The successful candidate will need to be available to start as soon as possible, for a period of three months, and will be paid the hourly rate of £9.53 per hour.

Projects will include:

· Creating, translating and proofing content for our Chinese social media – candidates must be fluent in Mandarin and English

· Supporting our new website project – this will include editing images, organising redirects and building webpages

· Coordinating filming and photography days

· Helping catalogue our images

· Assisting with RCM event promotion

We will give training in the following:

· Photoshop

· Content Management (web) System Terminal 4 which is used at the RCM and in other higher education institutions in the UK and USA

You will gain experience in the following areas:

· Managing social media channels

· Creating marketing content

· Event promotion

· Building web pages

· Arranging photoshoots and filming days

· Image management

You will be able to access the facilities of the RCM during your internship including a programme of concerts and masterclasses, our library containing a wealth of material including a renowned collection of manuscripts. We will also give advice on future career possibilities within marketing, provide support with job applications if desired and keep you informed of suitable opportunities.

An application form is available to download from www.rcm.ac.uk/jobs

This is not a position for which the RCM would sponsor a visa application. Applicants must be able to provide documentary confirmation of their right to work in the UK and will be asked to show this at interview stage.

Completed application forms and equal opportunities monitoring forms should be returned to Olivia Towers, HR Assistant, at [email protected] or Royal College of Music, Prince Consort Road, London SW7 2BS. Closing date for receipt of applications is 12 noon on Monday 10 October 2016 and interviews will be held the week commencing 17 October 2016.
