(Engaged Public Day) National Immunization Advisory Committee

Vaccines save and improve lives. The US congratulated China recently on the establishment of the National Immunization Advisory Committee (NIAC), an advisory committee of experts on immunization to make recommendations for including new vaccines into China’s Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) and on the use of existing EPI vaccines. The NIAC will consider 5 types of scientific evidence for EPI vaccine recommendations: preventable burden of disease, effectiveness, safety, cost effectiveness, and production capacity.   

NIAC vaccine recommendations will affect all children in China, as the advisory committee of experts will consider how best to protect children from vaccine preventable diseases.  China’s EPI system reaches every child with lifesaving vaccines that are provided to all families at no cost, regardless of socioeconomic status. For World Immunization Week, we recognize that vaccination is the safest way to protect children from vaccine preventable diseases.  With NIAC’s expert and evidence-based immunization recommendations, families in China can be confident that the most effective and safest vaccines are always used to help keep their children healthy.
