The presentation will be conducted in Chinese.

The contemporary era is a utilitarian one, in which everything is done in consideration of its usefulness. As a master of world literature, Shakespeare is also thought of by contemporary people in a utilitarian way. Although Shakespeare has not been with us for more than 400 years, his works continue to relate to our lives in various ways, whether elegant academic appreciation, utilitarian use, or mere vulgar satisfaction of eroticism. This lecture covers Western people’s use of Shakespeare in the fields of sports, language, politics, literature, law, medicine, war, and tourism, which also exerts great influence on Chinese scholars’ use of the Bard.
