Job Title: Business Development Manager (Trade and Investment)

Job Location: Beijing

Austrade has a vacancy of Business Development Manager in Beijing.


This position, located at the Australian Embassy in Beijing, is a business development role to assist in attracting investment to Australia and facilitate trade from Australia to China.


Duties:

  • Promote Australia as an investment destination to China-based companies through a targeted and systematic approach that matches local investor interests with Australian opportunities and capabilities, particularly in sectors targeted under the Australian Government’s national investment priorities.

  • Identify and capture opportunities to increase Australian exports and outward investment to the China market by providing quality and timely services to Australian companies.

  • Undertake market research, across various industry sectors that match Australian capability and suitability for the Chinese market, assess and compile company information, provide strategic advice to Australian companies seeking to develop business relationships and strategic alliances with Chinese companies and government agencies.

  • Constantly develop new contacts and networks in North China. Maintain and build on existing networks of contacts and remain well informed about the changing nature of China based investors as well as evolving investment opportunities in Australia.

  • Efficiently manage a fast-changing workload covering diverse industry sectors and a large number of investors, within internally and externally driven timeframes.

  • Assist in planning, coordinating and implementing business matching activities such as investor events, trade displays and market visits, including by government Ministers and officials.

  • Track the ongoing development of the commercial environment in Austrade priority sectors, and be able to relate this to the needs of Australian exporters.

  • Contribute to knowledge creation within Austrade by sharing knowledge, information and insight and by embracing opportunities for best practice and personal professional development.

  • Actively apply Austrade business practices and maintain accuracy of information in all Austrade Business Systems to deliver accurate and timely reporting and effective relationship management.

  • Contribute to knowledge creation within Austrade, by adopting information practices, sharing knowledge and information and by embracing best practice and development opportunities

  • Work collaboratively within the Austrade network to contribute to service delivery and achieve desired outcomes, while upholding the Australian Public Service (APS) Values and Code of Conduct and Work Health & Safety (WHS) principles.


Selection Criteria:

  1. Minimum five years' experience in a business development, investment facilitation, correlated role, preferably in international and/or foreign government organisations.

  2. Demonstrated experience in client relationship management encompassing client identification, relationship building, and solution selling.

  3. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Australia's export capabilities, especially Austrade's priority sectors.

  4. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the benefits of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and the capacity to understand and promote Australia’s competitive advantage and government policy.

  5. Strategic and analytical skills and proven problem solving abilities.

  6. Highly developed oral and written communication skills in both English and Mandarin, with proven ability to successfully represent Australia and Austrade, and to negotiate and communicate at all levels of government and with other stakeholders.

  7. Proven ability to work as part of a team across different industry teams and multiple locations in a performance driven culture.
